Picturing Mothers
Sunday, May 9 • 1:00 – 5:00 p.m.
Mothers, discover pastimes treasured by your sisters of long ago. Learn a 1780s dance step during the noon and 4:00 p.m. World of Women tours. Eighteenth-century fashion shows at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. introduce the latest styles. From 2 to 4 p.m., a silhouette artist will create old-fashioned images of your family members as a keepsake of the day.

One Pound of Gunpowder, Four Pounds of Lead

In 1774 George Mason created the Fairfax Independent Militia to protect the rights of local citizens. Patriot & Planter mansion tours highlight Mason’s role with the militia and in securing Virginia’s independence.
Regular admission. Free admission for active military personnel and veterans.
Events do not require a reservation unless specifically stated. The calendar is subject to change. A 30-minute mansion tour is part of all public programs. Tours are offered from 9:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
