Archaeology Day
Saturday October  16 • Noon – 4:00 p.m.

Join the archaeology staff and screen for artifacts, clean and mend found objects, and learn basic archaeological techniques. The Hunting for George Mason’s Garden tours at 1:15 and 3:15 p.m. reveal recent discoveries.

Regular admission.  Friends free.  Young people under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult.  Groups of five or more should make a reservation.

Decorative Arts Symposium
Thursday, November 4 • 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Déjà Vu: France in the Chesapeake

During the Colonial and Federal periods, memories and interpretations of France were embodied in a myriad of decorative forms.  Explore the role of French imports  in shaping style in the Chesapeake.

$95, adults; $80, Friends of Gunston Hall.  Lunch and symposium packet included.  Reservations required. Register by October 15 for a $10 discount.    Call 703-550-9220 for a brochure.

“Safe Defense of a Free State”: Veterans’ Day Commemoration
Thursday, November 11  •  9:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Honor the men and women who protected America, from the struggle for independence to today. Visit with reenactors to learn of the Mason family’s service to the nation.

Regular admission. Free admission for active military personnel and veterans. 

Plantation Christmas
Friday, December 10 and Saturday, December 11 • 6:30 – 9:30 p.m.

Ride in a horse-drawn carriage, sip warm cider by the fire, and sample period recipes prepared in the hearth kitchen. Costumed characters engaged in seasonal activities greet you in the house and throughout the grounds. 

$15, adults; $8 for ages 6-18; $2 for children 2-5 years.  Reservations not required. 

Plantation Christmas Yuletide Dinner
Friday  December 11 •  6:30 and 8:00 p.m.
Saturday, December 12 •  4:30, 6:00, and 8:00 p.m.              

While celebrating Plantation Christmas, indulge in delicious traditional fare.   Reservations are necessary for the full complement of courses served in a candlelit tavern setting. 
   
$49.95 for adults and ages 11 and older; $24.95 for 6-10 years; $9.95 for 2-5 years.  The cost of the meal includes admission to Plantation Christmas.  Telephone 703-550-9220 for reservations.


Events do not require a reservation unless specifically stated.  The calendar is subject to change.  A 30-minute mansion tour is part of all public programs.  Tours are offered from 9:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
